For The Love Of. A Celebration of Chefs Of Colour.
A culinary/lifestyle series that celebrates the stories, culture and ingredients of Afro-Caribbean cooking through the expression of talented black chefs.
OUR MISSION
To Celebrate Black Chefs
There has been a growing movement to create more inclusive kitchens across the culinary world. While a sea change has begun, there is still work to do. This show will spotlight black chefs who are instrumental in their culinary communities but don’t get the widespread recognition they deserve.
To Share Historically Marginalized Cuisines with the Masses
Have you experienced the tenderness that is Somalian goat shoulder? Have you ever had a plantain profiterole? Do you know the wonders of African cheeses? For a long time, the perception of African and Caribbean food has been dishes served in styrofoam take-out containers. There’s been a tendency to use “African” and “Caribbean” as umbrella terms to describe foods that are as diverse as the regions themselves. This show will celebrate the rich food traditions coming from all areas of the African continent, from the Magreb all the way to South Africa.
To Tell Stories Through Food
Cooking isn’t ranked high among storytelling mediums. But when you wade through the boozy haze of indulgence and look deeper, you see something more meaningful – history, personal stories of joy and suffering, and how people survived. Each morsel in this series will aspire to tantalize the mind and soul along with a few taste buds along the way.
